governor's island - photo diary

last weekend, thomas and I went to governor’s island for a little day trip. and lucky for us, the ferry runs from brooklyn at pier 6 on weekends! otherwise, it runs from manhattan, at the battery maritime building. check out the schedule here! the ferries run about every 45 minutes, and $3 dollars round trip! even with our bikes, which I highly recommend bringing your bike or easily renting from the citi bike stands that are on the island.

there’s plenty to explore on the island - food vendors, art, large grass lawns, and learning centers. it’s such a great mini escape from the city, almost blissful feeling. riding our bikes through the island (tons of bike lanes!) wind in my hair, no worries of downtown cars and crazy pedestrians in our way. my favorite moment was when we enjoyed our piece of chocolate on the grassy lawns with each other. these are the weekends and times I live for. enjoy some snapshots from our day out!

amazing weekend with my lovey, until next time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY thomas!

EDIT: late post; actual birthday is march 15

hello hello, jess here recapping about birthday sheenanigans of my thomas southworth; my silly-always-excited-about-life-best-chef-in-the-kitchen-professional-memory-capturer-most-patient-life-partner-dessert-dare-devil-lover! I’m your #1fangirl, I love you endlessly day in, and day out.

edit: we’ve since moved in together and you’ve been the best boomate I could ever ask for. thank you for always being the best plant papa to our plants (minus the money tree, I forgive you). so far, so good - i’ll really do my best to keep my clothes off the sofa :P. anyways! always looking forwards to more memories together, I love you!

it was so fun hanging out with sharon and jon, navigating our way through chinatown and the old chinese ladies with their pushcarts. we picked up all our party food supplies and went to town with the window meats! we might have to make this a thomas birthday tradition!

few tips to host a fun party ideas;

  • good playlist

  • instax or disposable camera to pass around with friends and loved ones

  • props!!! we had mr. rex and gumby cacti

  • food, food everywhere, probably a good idea to have a dessert table as well

  • good people

  • secret ingredient ketchup in your japanese curry

  • candles, lots of birthday candles everywhere - anyone know of a chic looking taper candle holder? send links my way, please!

  • a DIY balloon banner is a plus, and just banners in general!

another themed dinner - swedish edition!

thanks to sharon and jon for hosting swedish night! or should I say, tack! fish, egg, cracker appetizers and the classic swedish meatballs and potatoes. after you sing traditional songs, take a shot, and eat! also, this all happens in a candle lit dining space, low light ambiance.

do we still need to visit ikea for meatballs anymore after tonight?

another birthday *~nyc edition*~

jess here, just spent another birthday! with my love! with, new york city!

took the day off and went to the whitney museum, thanks rolo for the little hookup! if you’re a fan of andy warhol - this is a must see! we browsed through the museum pretty quickly, I think my favorite moment there was enjoying a ham and cheese croissant and cookie at the studio cafe on the 8th floor with thomas. afterwards thomas went to run some “work errands” and we went to soju haus, ate pig’s feet and got druunk off green grape soju. fell asleep at 8PM. best day ever.

then thomas hosted a low country boil and invited friends over! we stuffed our face silly with seafood (see food diet) and sang happy birthday to me over the most decadent chocolate cake of chocolate chocolate cakes. does anyone else feel the happy birthday song is about 20 seconds too long? thanks everyone for the birthday love.

xoxo, j
