finishing up our 9 weeks in. few things in no particular order, that make me really happy. mostly food, all the time thomas, dessert-y things, mailing things out. let me know what brings you some joy these days!

another day trip - cold spring bound

spent the day in upstate new york, in the small town of cold spring! very quaint little town with a main strip literally called main street, just off the train station. this daytime getaway is easy to get to from grand central station. we took the metro-north train up towards poughkeepsie and hopped off at cold spring station. it’s a $30 round trip ticket for off peak times, doesn’t get any easier than that.
we didn’t have a chance to eat at any of the restaurants along the street, but did stop by the cheese shop for a grilled cheese sando. it was the perfect snack for our train ride back home. let me know if you get a chance to visit cold springs and share your favorite store or thrift shop finds here!

until the next weekend,

yayoi kusama - minus the infinity room

yayoi kusama brings all the boys and girls to the yard. everyone wants a photo of work by kusama. she can set out a garbage bin dotted with polka dots and people will line up hours upon hours (no joke) to see her work here in the states. everyone covets the famous artist and her work for a chance to see it in person and have her work living in one's photo stream. it's like winning the lottery of the artist world.

David Zwirner Twitter - you can check here to see the current wait times!

we didn’t end up waiting in line to see the infinity room, but we explored the rest of the exhibition, which is just as amazing!

the gallery is located on the west side of the city, nearby the highline. there are plenty other galleries and exhibition in the neighborhood to easily walk in and get your art culture fix for the afternoon. tons of great artists on display here. let me know what are your favorites in the neighborhood and I would love to check it out as well!

away at the lake

few weekends ago we went away to finger lakes up north, how one would say, “I’m going upstate NY this weekend!” because there’s so much more to new york, than just new york city! (even though the city is still great and all)

we rented a car from sixt rentals in lower Manhattan, which moving forward, I suggest not renting from Manhattan anymore!! The nightmare of getting out of the city and coming back into the city to return the rental car was brutal. Stuck in traffic, everyone blaring their horns, one way signs - it’s just not worth the struggle and time wasted.. I haven’t rented from an airport here in nyc just yet, but I imagine that to be much more smooth sailing, specifically JFK. Plus the trains are just a nonstop ride away!

We made a scheduled pitstop at Waffle House. THE COVETED WAFFLEHOUSE. Of course we ordered waffles all around and all star breakfasts.

full day 1

hike through Watkins Glen state park through gorgeous gorges, streams, waterfalls, and rock structures shaped by water.  experienced another cult favorite of grocery stores, a wegmans, which they’re anticipating the opening of it in brooklyn in october this year! pretty awesome. we then all cooked and prepped together with anthony’s family and enjoyed an evening dinner on the patio.

full day 2

LAKE DAY! spent the day enjoying the lake. woke up, and we all made breakfast together. and next thing you know - we’re all in the lake!

pro-tip for going into a lake, just suck it up and order the ugly water shoes. it really makes a difference and protects your feet from scrapes and cuts of the rock bottom.

half day 3

we woke up to prepare brunch, our last meal altogether before embarking on the drive back to nyc! it was such an amazing weekend to just hang out with friends, be around food, and enjoy the sounds of the calm lake waves. i’m so happy to have gotten a chance to go upstate this summer. special shoutout thanks to anthony and his parents for welcoming all of us with open arms!

another fourth of july!

spent fourth of july on a rooftop with friends in brooklyn. actually really close to what I imaged and envisioned life in brooklyn/new york would be. next year though, I’m envisioning being right under the fireworks and hearing the booms and seeing the sparkles in the sky up close. just putting the vibes out there to make it happen! cheers to many more fourths ahead!

*cue* baby you’re firewooooorks 🎆🎇
